Commonly referred to as “Trumpet Voluntary,” Prince of Denmark’s March was written around 1700 by the English composer Jeremiah Clarke. Clarke was appointed the first organist of the newly-rebuilt St. Paul’s Cathedral after the old cathedral was destroyed in the Great Fire of London. The march is commonly used in wedding celebrations as recessional music. It has also been widely appropriated into popular culture with its melody appearing on albums by the Beatles, Sting and Chumbawamba.

As with many orchestral pieces, you may not be familiar with this one by name but as soon as you hear it, you’ll instantly recognize it! Prince of Denmark’s March has been transposed to F Major and features a bright, rousing melody, syncopated rhythms as well as some funky, rhythmic fills in the percussion.
